End of tenancy and all the chores, tasks and responsibilities, including packing, moving out your stuff and end of tenancy cleaning is a stressful and intensive experience by itself and when we add to the whole picture the moving into a new home experience, things get even harder and more complicated. Don’t get us wrong, changing houses is nothing but an exciting thing that gives you the chance for a new start and makes you feel better. However, it is a pretty intensive and overwhelming thing too, because there are so many things that have to be done and need your focus and attention. In order to make things a bit easier for you, today we are providing you with a few helpful ideas about what to do when you move into a new house the first week or so.
Things can get very chaotic without a plan of action, so here is your strategy:
Change the locks
Change the locks on your new house as soon as you get your keys. Perhaps the previous tenant is still having the keys to your new house as well as at least a half of its family and friends and the last thing you want is them to use their keys and walk into your new family rest unannounced. Changing the locks is not that hard at all and you can do it by yourself, or call a specialist to do it for you. The next thing you would like to do is call your utility service providers and alert them of your move.
Find a new doctor and dentist
In case you are not simply changing houses, but not changing the neighbourhood, or the area you live, you will need to find a new GP practice and dentist close to the new place you are moving into. That way you will save yourself a lot of stress later on and avoid doing important things like this one last minute when you actually need help. Don’t forget to change your subscription and other mail to your new address.
Give your new home a deep clean
Well, the previous tenants are maybe leaving you with the results of an end of tenancy cleaning service… or maybe not. If it is about the second scenario, then you are going to need a free weekend, or a whole week and the whole family and friends on handy to use some elbow grease for making your new home a cosy and comfortable, sparkling clean family nest. Thorough and deep house cleaning is your target, so don’t miss a nook and a corner. Still, if there are some more serious tasks that require some professional help such as professional carpet or upholstery cleaning and more, don’t hesitate to call the experts.
Pack an overnight bag
Ah, the first night you stay in your new house – it is one of the best feelings in this world, really! However, when all your stuff is packed in boxes and still in the moving truck, or spread around the whole house, you wouldn’t be able to use the stuff you are usually using in the evening, or before bed, or in the next morning. Make sure to pack an overnight bag with everything you really need and use on an everyday basis.
